With 15 years in the education field and social service, Meetal has teaching experience with learners who have additional needs. Meetal joined DAS International in June 2020 as a Specialist Teacher, and she has been teaching students who struggle to learn at both primary and secondary levels.
Previously, as a PLP Teacher, she supported and taught students at Invictus International School in areas like English, literacy and language, Maths and Science from Year 1 to Year 7. She has also developed materials, resources and assessment tools such as Informal assessments to assess oral reading fluency, spelling and comprehension of material read. She has worked with students who have additional needs or who also require EAL support individually or in small groups. In addition, she has also trained and mentored junior colleagues like fellow teachers and teaching assistants to be well-prepared for their distinct roles.
Earlier on, as a Middle School teacher at The Winstedt School, she taught students with diverse needs the English Language, International Mindedness, IMYC, Social Emotional Learning, and supported other teachers in areas like Drama, Science, STEAM, Computing and Art. She also supported them during their learning journeys. Students have benefitted from learning entrepreneurship skills in Jewellery Design, horticulture in Growing Goodness and saving animals in Animal Carers as part of a future readiness programme. Previously supporting the cognitive, learning and behavioural needs of students in SHINE Children and Youth Services, she taught primary-level students. Having worked in local schools and taught ESL/ mainstream subjects in an international school as a Homeroom Teacher, she has been teaching mixed-ability learners.
Further to that, her TESOL qualifications equip her to educate learners who take English as an additional or second language. Meetal completed a Bachelor’s degree from Northumbria University, UK, with an honours dissertation on vocational prospects for youth with Autism. She has a Diploma in Special Education from NIE-NTU, is trained in the Orton Gillingham approach, Autism and has carried out the school-based dyslexia remediation program. She has run reading programmes for children who require either reading skills or exposure to various thematic vocabulary. During that time and thereafter, she would tutor and support primary and lower secondary students with special needs (i.e. Autism, Dyslexia, Hemiplegia & other needs). Spending time with and tutoring the youth with Muscular Dystrophy gave her insight into the importance of inclusiveness. As a lifelong learner, she endeavours to continue championing students with additional needs and encourages creativity, activity or play-based learning.
