Intensive Specialist Teaching

Focused 1-to-1 support for individual learning priorities

Intensive Specialist Teaching is a short-term, concentrated programme of personalised 1-to-1 teaching. It is designed for students who may benefit from additional support during school holidays, examination periods, school transitions or while preparing to enter formal education.

The programme focuses on selected learning priorities based on each student’s current needs. Rather than attempting to cover an entire curriculum within a short period, the Specialist Teacher works with the student on specific skills, concepts or learning strategies.

Who may benefit?

Intensive Specialist Teaching may be suitable for students who:

  • Require focused support in a particular skill or subject
  • Are preparing for an examination or school transition
  • Would benefit from strengthening selected foundational concepts
  • Need additional support with current curriculum demands
  • Are awaiting school placement or preparing to return to formal education
  • Would benefit from a concentrated programme during a school holiday

As every learner is different, suitability will depend on the student’s needs, priorities and proposed timeframe.

An Individualised Approach

An Individual Education Plan is developed around the student’s learning profile, strengths and areas of need. It identifies appropriate learning goals and the strategies that will be used to support the student.

Goals are kept realistic and manageable for the period of support. The programme can be adjusted in response to the student’s engagement and progress.

Areas of Support

English Literacy

Support may include:

  • Reading comprehension
  • Reading fluency
  • Spelling
  • Writing
  • School readiness and preparation for Primary One
  • Preparation for the transition from primary to secondary school

Mathematics

Support is available from primary to secondary levels. A focused block may be planned around selected mathematical topics or concepts requiring additional teaching and practice.

Chinese Literacy

Individualised support may be provided for students who require additional help with Chinese literacy and language skills.

Examination and Study Skills

Support may focus on selected subject knowledge, examination requirements and relevant study skills, including active listening, note-taking and language concepts.

Curriculum-Based Remediation

This support connects teaching with the demands of the student’s school curriculum. It may focus on selected homework requirements, curriculum subjects or skills that affect the student’s access to classroom learning.

What does "intensive" mean?

“Intensive” refers to the concentration and frequency of lessons over a shorter period. A student may attend several sessions during the week, allowing greater continuity and reinforcement of the selected learning priorities.

It does not mean that every learning gap can be addressed within a short period or that a particular result can be guaranteed. The nature and pace of progress will vary according to the student’s starting point, learning profile, attendance and engagement.

Lessons may be delivered online or onsite, with timings and frequency arranged according to the student’s needs and teacher availability.
